Awesome Viking Drum Cover to "Blood and Thunder"

Lux, the drummerette, has a pretty good drum cover of MASTODON's classic song "Blood and Thunder."

Top Ten: SONGS O' 2011

So the year is almost done, and I don't think any prominent acts are going to release new material so I think it's safe to release a year end countdown review of my favourite songs.

BTW, if you were looking for songs more appropriate for the holidays, you can find my own personal Christmas playlist.

10. "The Years" by ††† (CROSSES)

I'm starting the list with a track from the surprisingly good Batman: Arkham City soundtrack. Apparently used as the Joker's theme, "The Years" by ††† starts with an ominous sounding slow burn but then suddenly explodes into a cacophony that oozes in sex-appeal. You can just picture all hell breaking loose when THE part in the song happens.  ††† is the side band of Deftones front man Chino Moreno.

FEIST and MASTODON Work Together?

In an interview with MTV News Canada, Mastodon's singer/bassist Troy Sanders revealed that they're teaming up with Canadian singer-songwriter Feist and going to release a split 7" for next year's Record Store Day, which falls on April 21st in 2012.

Album Review: MASTODON - "The Hunter"

Coolest whittling project ever

4 out of 5

The fifth full-length album from sludge/alternative/progressive metal gods Mastodon, The Hunter explores new territories while still bringing the passion and intensity they've always been known for.  Unlike the ever increasing prog-metal showcases of their previous albums, here they set out to produce a "super-heavy Led Zeppelin" album filled with riffs and songs that are easier to digest.  As a result of this recipe change, they created an a hard rock album reminiscent of the fantastic Queens Of The Stone Age - and trust me, that's a very good thing.
