KRIS KROSS - "Jump"

Too bad another life has been cut short with the early passing of Chris "Mac Daddy" Kelly.

Here is KRIS KROSS's most popular song to commemorate his passing. I have to say, they were pretty good rappers for their young age in this song.

KP AND ENVYI - "Shorty Swing My Way"

After hearing this song during a 90's hip hop party over the weekend, this track has snuck onto my playlist because it is pretty awesome.

I love the production in this song. The drums speeding up and slowing down and the sustained guitar picking just makes it so interesting. That and that awesome chorus you just want to sing along to.

Since it was voted by the fans, I'm not surprised that "Stairway To Heaven" was voted number one since it is universally considered the best song in rock ever but MY personal choice for number one would have been "Comfortably Numb" which just oozes with feeling. Also, where is "Cliffs Of Dover"?! All in all, it's a pretty good list filled with Clapton and Hendrix so I'm happy.

USHER - "Twork It Out"

This song has such a classic R&B sound that's just awesome but I think the hyper-sexual lyrics and sound effects are a little too much. Oh well, that all adds to what makes the song special.

BILLY JOEL - "The Stranger"

Another piano man to mark this Thursday, BILLY JOEL's "The Stranger" is the title track for his iconic album. This song has great pacing and great drums.

ELTON JOHN - "Bennie And The Jets"

The slow, deliberate piano chords really make this song chug along at a marching speed. Although it can be found on his popular album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, ELTON JOHN really was against releasing the song as a single because he thought it would certainly fail. How ironic it is now one of his most iconic songs.

This genre-bending track even got ELTON JOHN the chance to perform on Soul Train!

A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS - "Space Age Love Song"

A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS absolutely nails the new wave/post-punk sound that was so popular during the 80's. Also... THE HAIR!!

BILLY JOEL - "The Longest Time"

This 1984 doo-wop, a capella single is the brain child of BILLY JOEL who does all of the vocals for this song plus any of the other background noise.

This song had me literally dancing in the snow today; the perfect soundtrack to fight the S.A.D.

EURYTHMICS - "Here Comes The Rain Again"

I can't believe how well this song, and frankly, all the songs from the EURYTHMICS stand the test of time. All these pop, R&B, and indie-rock artists of today have to respect how this band changed the landscape of music.

"Let's Get It On" Cover

Check out this surprising cover from Jordan Lamont Landers. He's made it his mission to prove that Gingers DO have "soul".

Of course, the original sensual classic was performed by the late great MARVIN GAYE.

BIG PUN - "Twinz (Deep Cover 98)" feat Fat Joe

This may be one of the best rap songs I've ever heard.

The late great BIG PUN and FAT JOE just kill this classic beat with interesting and fierce flow. (The classic beat is of course from Deep Cover, Dr. Dre's first solo song after N.W.A. and Snoop Dogg's first song).

And what really sold me on this song is the ending of BIG PUN's first verse, around the 0:25 mark where he drops some of the best rhymes ever spit:

Dead in the middle of Little Italy little did we know that we riddled some middleman who didn't do diddily.

You can check out the music video HERE which actually includes Snoop Dogg! I preferred the non-censored version so that's the one I embedded but the version in the music video is pretty good too.
